Faced with the uncertain scenario of schools openings for the Fall 2020, Student Transportation Aligned for Return to School, or STARTS Task Force, earlier this week released a tool kit to help prepare school districts, across the US, for the challenges of school start and operations in 2020–21. The STARTS tool kit is a list of guidelines “for transportation professionals and their stakeholders that can be used in the design and development of school opening plans and the development of sustainable operational support in a time of COVID-19”. (The list can be downloaded as an excel file from the Task force presentation.)

The BUSLOC platform, originally started as a FREE school bus tracking software (two Apps and a Desktop tool), has now implemented COVID-19 modules to help school districts implement COVID-19 compliance.

The COVID-19 modules in all BUSLOC software components are customizable for the School District’s requirements, including custom health forms, daily check forms, route creation, route stops, attendance module, mode of student access (phone or email), limiting the number of students in each bus stop, enforcing face mask policies, assigning students to each seat, assigning A/B days to students and routes etc. The apps allow individual communication with students/parents as well as a route level broadcast of messages to students/parents. As a reminder: all BUSLOC apps are FREE, not just now but forever.
